Wildlife Habitat
Dunaway is a conservation-oriented community and, as such, makes every effort to provide a quality habitat for the wildlife that calls Dunaway home. The property is located in the western section of Sequatchie County and the eastern section of Grundy County, Tennessee and currently comprises approximately 7,800 contiguous acres (5,600 acres owned and 2,200 acres leased) which is intensively managed by the Dunaway staff and resident wildlife biologist. The primary cover types for the owned property are mixed hardwood stands, with components of grasslands and small pine stands. In addition, several small clear-cut areas, managed for early succession, provide a valuable natural food source as well as needed bedding and escape cover for the wildlife. Also, there are 37 planted food plots providing both cool and warm season plantings that furnish year-around nutrition. A high-protein, supplemental feed is supplied throughout 9 months of the year to ensure that all wildlife nutritional needs are met. The entire 2,200 acres of leased land is under intense pine timber management and has 17 small food plots dispersed throughout the tract.

The COMMITMENT OF DUNAWAY to our wildlife habitat plan coupled with the size of the managed property provides the membership with a true wildlife treasure. The management practices of Dunaway have set a precedent that is drawing attention. As a result, neighboring land owners and hunting clubs are working together with the Dunaway management team to create a management plan cooperative.
